Lowering Their Bills
News came out yesterday afternoon about a workforce reduction at Experian Interactive, owners of Experian Consumer Direct (the hugely successful FreeCreditReport.com), Affiliate Fuel, ClassesUSA.com®, PriceGrabber.com and LowerMyBills.com™.
Experian Interactive laid off between 35 and 40 people spanning a wide range of disciplines. The cuts seem targeted towards middle management layers and to maximize cost savings. The week prior the company also cut back on some of its perks, such as lunches, also to rein in expenses.
Experian Interactive is a company that I've always been long on. I think highly of their assets and positioning for continued future success. And, while it's sad to hear of layoffs in our space, that it didn't happen sooner speaks to their strength. More layoffs are always possible in this environment, but unlike, say, Yahoo, this round doesn't speak to any underlying weakness or reasons for their current employees and partners to be concerned.
For others in the performance-based marketing space, especially those in lead generation, now is your opportunity to recruit seasoned talent that has a single-minded focus on metrics and winning.
Rumors are confirmed.
There are a few other local online marketing services companies that have let go of some talented individuals.
Thanks Jay :-)
