Hi Jay - glad you like the ad product!

One thing that isn't well know is that you can setup a business account (to manage ads and/or pages) if you don't want a profile on facebook. Read about it here:

That said, I personally think that getting onto facebook and engaging customers is pretty valuable. I'm amazed at how businesses use facebook in both paid and unpaid manners (i'll write a blog post about it sometime).

cheers,

Great post Jay! I think you're right about FB finally solving the social network ad revenue conundrum. As someone focused on hyper-local lead generation, I see an incredibly valuable opportunity to syndicate ads across various keywords. For instance, if I could place an ad in Denver for a plumbing company if someone were to have updated their status with 'Cindy woke up with a busted water pipe in her home'or for a local realtor if 'Tom is fed up with the apartment life and looking to buy a house'.

Having not played around with FB's advertising platform, I'm not certain if this type of functionality is already present. If not, I hope that's where they're headed!

I have had an advert on Facebook for a while but am not too confident about the quality of clicks I am getting. No sales thus far but I have to agree that as the most used networking site in the world why wouldn't you want a piece of it. I am looking around for more advice on how to get success from facebook. It is a pain that you cannot set up a seperate business account to your pwrsonal one but rules are rules.
